Tommy Palica gets picked up by the Phillies organization

A huge congratulations to one of OC Fast-Twitch's athletes, Tommy Palica. On Tuesday during his game, Tommy learned that he had been picked up by the Phillies organization. He reported to one of their minor league teams today.  Tommy has been a regular in the off season at OC Fast-Twitch for a few years.  He has always been an incredibly hard worker and pushed himself to the limits.

Nutrition Tip #1

It's best to start your day off with a protein shake in the morning!

Not only are protein shakes delicious, refreshing, and easy to prepare they also have many health benefits. Here are a few...

1) Having Whey protein to start your day can stabilize and regulate your blood sugar levels (BSL).  So why does that matter?  When your BSL remains stable your metabolism functions much more efficiently!  This is something we all want. If your BSL is unstable your body will adjust to fix that problem.  For example when your BSL is too high your body will store sugar as fat.  This will then leave your BSL low causing you to crave sugar and your body will want to store any extra as fat, instead of using it as energy.  Making it really hard to lose weight!

2) Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  Your body is extremely hungry after not eating for hours and needs nourishment.  The fruit in your shake is a great source of carbohydrates and when it is mixed with the Whey protein it is slowly excreted into your body and provides you with maintained energy at a high level for many hours.  If your body gets the carbs/glucose it needs in a nice steady stream (no sugar rush) your body is jump-started and ready for the day.

3) You also start off your day hydrated!  We'll tackle this topic another day.

Whey protein is a particularly good source of protein because it's pure, clean, and one of the most easily absorbed sources of protein there is.  In fact, Whey protein has the highest biological value (a measure of nitrogen retained for growth or maintenance) of any protein.

Welcome to the OC Fast-Twitch blog! Obviously the site has been up for a while but it has not been kept up regularly. Consider that a thing of the past! From now on you will be able to check back often for OC Fast-Twitch updates, news, training and nutrition tips and so much more. Consider us your source for all your health and fitness needs. If you have any questions or subjects you would like us to address feel free to leave us a comment!
